NYS Constitutional Convention“Budget talks going nowhere”"

“Top lobbyists spent $45 million”

These state news headlines appeared in yesterday’s newspaper.  The budget was due on April 1st.  New Yorkers have had only two “on time” budgets in the past 20 years.  Late budgets cause entities like school districts to borrow money for operations–the cost of which (interest) is then passed by law onto the taxpayers.  It’s yet another case of disguised financial chicanery by Albany.

Lobbyists?  The NY Public Interest Research Group (linked to this site) said that teachers unions spent $3 million on lobbying the legislature last year, and $1 million to support candidates.  Overall, the top 50 lobbyists spent $45 million to influence the legislature.

Just think — for $2,000,000 in marketing funds we (the non-partisan Citizens for a People’s Convention) could possibly win a constitutional convention and go over the heads of the legislature to short-circuit a lot of the nonsense happening in Albany today.  That’s only 200,000 people at $10 each.  Two hundred thousand people who risk the price of a Domino’s Pizza to win, say, a spending cap that saves us $20 billion over the next five years.

Someone needs to be the adult around here.  You can be one of the 200,000 people who save the state from its toxic dysfunction.  Donate to this cause today.  Sign the petition.  Forward the link to 5 like-minded friends.
