NYS Constitutional Convention? It’s time
March 25th, 2010
Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb wants to force a “People’s Convention” before the next constitutionally appointed year–2017. Brian is enthusiastic and is crafting a plan to make it happen. But permitting an “early” constitutional convention requires that the legislature vote for it. Don’t see that happening, do you? They’ll view it as too dangerous to let the common people have a shot at playing in their sand box by offering up potential amendments. I applaud Brian’s efforts and will help him any way possible. Some deep, thoughtful non-partisan foreplanning is required for any constitutional convention to a) occur; b) be made off-limits to elected officials, party hacks, and lobbyists; c) identify and tackle the top 4-5 issues (at most); d) be fair; e) be effective. This subject is this blog’s primary mission to explore in the months ahead. Enjoy your day.

The winds of change are blowing in NYS and constitutional reform is absolutely necessary. We are a lot closer to collapse than people think. We cannot go on supporting all the liberal programs with taxes on the backs of productive persons. There are some real regional differences in the distribution of wealth in NY and a secession of Western and Easter NYS certainly more fairly represents the needs and abilities of all concerned. It is truly time to rid New Yorker’s of the burden of too much government and too much liberal redistribution of working people’s money. We have become so politically entrenched that change is impossible without a major reconstruction of the government.
